At the core of our expert mentorship is our method, which guides our expert mentors in adapting to multiple learning styles and creating in-depth understanding.  Our method is based on the latest research about how the brain learns.  Besides being powerful, it’s flexible and can be applied easily to any subject: Math, Science, Reading, Writing, and so on.  Every one of our mentors must master the method to achieve an expert status and work with students.

Our method begins by learning about the student through testing and conversations about what interests the child.  The tests give us insight into the student’s natural learning style, and the student’s interests give us an idea of what will motivate him or her.  Whether it’s skateboarding or video games, we look at what activities the student chooses to participate in, and these serve as the motivation for the rest of their learning activities.

The mentor will use their creatively to take the concepts the student needs to learn and present them in a way that fits both the student’s learning style and motivation.  The mentor will then use specific methods to have the student critically analyze and creatively think using their new material.  This process solidifies the concepts and creates true understanding.  While it takes longer than skill memorization, it ultimately increases the speed at which students learn new material because they have an extremely solid foundation.

Finally, the mentor will work with the student to take tests on the material they just learned.  The student will develop test-taking skills and be practiced with the material so that when they are tested in school, not only do they truly understand the material, they are excellent at taking tests on the concepts.
